Hypothyroidism increases deaths from infections, heart attacks, cancer and emphysema, Mark Starr, MD
| January 10, 2012 | 5:52 pm | Thyroid Booster | 1 Comment

fatnews.com Hi, this is Larry Hobbs @ FatNews.com. Thyroid expert, Broda Barnes, MD, PhD found that heart attacks increased in Graz, Austria from one in 125 to one in 14 after antibiotics were introduced which prevented early deaths from tuberculosis, Mark Starr, MD notes in this audio clip. After analyzing 70000 autopsies, Barnes also noted that prior to 1945 when antibiotics were introduced, people dying of tuberculosis had advanced atherosclerosis in their coronary arteries. After the introduction of antibiotics which prevented these deaths, deaths from heart attacks increased nearly 9-fold, from one in 125 deaths, to one in 14 deaths. Barnes also found that those dying of heart attacks, had evidence that they had had tuberculosis in their lungs. He then realized that hypothyroidism was the cause of both conditions. He also found that deaths from various cancers and emphysema increased 3-fold or more, suggesting to Barnes that hypothyroidism increases the risk of cancer and emphysema, and that treated people with desiccated thyroid might reduce the risk. (In a speech Barnes gave, he noted that cancer deaths in his patients treated with desiccated thyroid were about half the national average in the US) Here is a short audio clip of Dr. Starr talking about this in a speech he gave at a 2007 Orthomolecular Conference. Are you Suffering From Hypothyroidism?

When someone is suffering from hypothyroidism the thyroid gland is impaired, producing too little thyroid hormone. Hypothyroidism is primarily due to a dysfunction of the thyroid gland itself. If you have hypothyroidism, you can start taking control with thyromine. Act now to work towards looking better and feeling better.

Thyroid Gland and Hypothyroidism! The thyroid gland makes four hormones: Thyroxin (T4), triiodothyronine (T3), diiodothyronine (T2) and monoiodothyronine (T1). The hormones contain iodine, and the figures tell about the number of iodine atoms in each hormone molecule. T3 is not made directly, but is produced from T4. T3 is a more efficient hormone than T4. Therefore this conversion is important. The hormones produced by the thyroid gland control the body’s metabolic rate and a dysfunction to this gland can affect every organ in the body. When the thyroid is under-active it creates a general depression of many of the cellular systems and oxidative processes in the body that are needed for energy production. This can cause the metabolic activities in the cells to decrease. Metabolic wastes can then filtrate into the organs, causing them to become sluggish. Thyroxine determines how quickly nutrients are converted into energy and how efficiently food is burned within the body. Hypothyroidism is a condition that occurs when the thyroid gland does not produce sufficient amounts of thyroid hormones, specifically thyroxine. There are several symptoms, which can indicate a thyroid condition. The most common indicators of an under active thyroid are unexplained weight gain, moodiness, fatigue, constipation, sensitivity to cold temperatures, sudden clumsiness, fragile hair and nails and many more. An under active thyroid undermines your whole life. Thyromine can help give you your life back.

How Thyromine Works?Thyromine ingredients consist of L-Tyrosine, Bovine Thyroid powder, Bovine Adrenal Powder, Guglipid, Nori, Piper Longum Extract and Ginger Extract. Thyromine works very well for people who have hypothyroidism. For example L-Tyrosine works to stimulate the metabolism. Guglipid works to lower bad cholesterol and increase good cholesterol. Adrenal Powder from Bovine helps regulate your body’s stress levels. Piper Longum Extract increases the production of thyroid hormones and stimulates the immune system. Finally, Ginger extract works to prevent blood clots and is used to treat digestive problems. Thyromine can make your life come together because of its combination of natural ingredients that help your thyroid to perform normally.

You Can Heal Your Body From Hypothyroidism Naturally!

You Can Heal Your Body From Hypothyroidism Naturally!

Over five million Americans have it, and it is estimated that over ten percent of women suffer from it. While the disease is very common, it also has harsh side effects. The disease basically means that you have a sluggish thyroid, which keeps your body from metabolizing properly. The most common symptom among people who have hypothyroidism is that they constantly feel tired or sluggish. Other symptoms of the disease include hair loss, weight gain, increased difficulty losing weight, brittle hair, hair loss, dry skin, an inability to tolerate the cold, frequent muscle aches, constipation, depression, abnormal menstrual cycles and a decreased libido.

The good news is that you can actually help boost your energy naturally by getting a better lifestyle. By doing this, you will feel more healthy overall and you will even lose weight! If you have a good lifestyle, your body will be healthy and well maintained, and you will recover from illness more quickly, weigh less, respond to stress better, and just feel better overall. The first thing that you can do to help your hypothyroidism is to change your diet.

Most typical American diets consist of many highly processed foods and not nearly enough fruits and vegetables. Although many things can contribute to the onset of hypothyroidism, many people hypothesize that an overload of toxicity within the body is a major cause of the disease. But you can cleanse your body by simply changing your diet. First of all, avoid iodized salt. Instead, use Celtic salt, Japanese salt, or a good quality sea salt. Next, it will help if you eat more things with coconut in them. It does not matter whether you eat the nut meat, oil, or milk, all of these will have the same positive effect on your body. Also, eat more fish will increase healthy fatty acid needed by the body.

But the most important thing that you can do to help your body naturally heal itself from hypothyroidism is to eat more green vegetables and fresh fruits! There are a few vegetables in the cabbage family that will actually worsen your hypothyroidism. These include brussels sprouts, broccoli, cabbage, kale, mustard greens and spinach. You can still eat these, just make sure that you eat it moderation. Vegetables that will combat hypothyroidism include leafy greens, alfalfa, carrots, green peppers, watercress, beets, celery, parsley, sprouts, and seaweed.

Since it is sometimes hard to consume so many fruits and vegetables in one day, a wonderful option is to juice the fruits and vegetables. Juicing gives you all the vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that are in the fruits and vegetables without filling you up as fast. For example, it takes a whole bag of carrots to make one glass of carrot juice. Delicious and healthy juices you can add to your diet can be made of any blend of apples, cranberries, alfalfa, apricots, grapefruits, pineapple, kelp, grapes, celery, carrots, or grapes.

Finally, be sure to avoid as many processed and refined foods as you can. Avoid antihistamines, chlorine faucet water, fluoride, and iodine. People who switch to this diet find that their cholesterol plummets and that they lose a ton of weight! Although it can initially be a hard adjustment, most people find that in the long run, it is well worth it. They look and feel so much better, and they can even wear jeans that they fit into way back in college!

Hypothyroidism – Treatments From Nature

This article will discuss natural Hypothyroidism treatments and whether they are a good option. I’ll also explain what Hypothyroidism is and does and what some of the causes are of this extremely common condition. If you are considering any alternative forms of treatment, always be sure to discuss it with your doctor or health care provider beforehand.

The Thyroid gland located in the base of the neck is one of the larger endocrine glands in the body. Its purpose is to produce hormones which regulate growth and metabolism. When the Thyroid doesn’t produce enough of these hormones everything in the body starts to slow down which produces the condition known as Hypothyroidism. Symptoms of Hypothyroidism can include constipation, fatigue, dizziness and sensitivity to cold.

The main cause of Hypothyroidism is Iodine deficiency but there are other causes too such as a build up of toxins in the body or even the body’s own immune system attacking the Thyroid gland. Finding the root cause of your Hypothyroidism is important if you want to successfully reverse the condition.

Natural Hypothyroidism treatments are a wonderful method of treating any condition and produce far fewer if any side effects. The treating of a Thyroid condition should be done with guidance from a professional. Natural methods of treating Hypothyroidism may include the use of Kelp, Bladderwrack or Irish Moss because of their rich Iodine content which is needed for the creation of Thyroid hormones. Ashwagandha (Withania sominifera) could also be used as it boosts Thyroid hormone production quite dramatically.

Managing Hypothyroidism – Remedies To Choose From

Managing Hypothyroidism – Remedies To Choose From

It is very important for the body to maintain the body’s metabolism process as it plays a major role in the provision of the energy to body tissues. This can only be achieved by making sure that there is enough production of the hormones related in the production of the thyroxine to be used in the metabolism process. However, there are a number of remedies that one can choose from in order to be able to manage hypothyroidism and reduce it zero level and in return enhance the production of thyroxine and triiodothyronine hormones. There are natural and artificial remedies where you can choose from depending on what you feel will work quite effectively for you.

For natural remedies, they are highly known for its good work of reducing and even eliminating hypothyroidism completely. One of the greatest treatments based on the natural remedies is the use of iodine products on the usual basis. It actually plays a major role of assisting the thyroid in the production of the thyroid hormones which in return help in metabolism process. The greater advantage of this remedy is that, iodine can easily be obtained as there are naturally occurring iodines like the sea salts.

Another very important way to manage hypothyroidism is through the use of some selected diets. Not all the diets are good for your health problems as others might be there to worsen your situation. For this case therefore, it is always good to eliminate such food stuffs like eggs, red meat, and foods with a lot of fats, sugars, and sodium chloride. These foods are very prone to reducing the production of thyroid thus limited metabolism process.

Moreover, you can decide on the artificial remedies to manage hypothyroidism which involves using medicinal drugs to manage hypothyroidism. This is a permanent solution although it might rise again if directions are not followed to the later. It involve the artificial placement of synthroid which is a synthetic thyroid hormone specially designed to increase the thyroid hormone in the body tissues.

It is always very simple to know that one is suffering from hypothyroidism especially if you are keen. It is normally characterized by emotional changes, anxiety, increased appetite or even weight loss. For this reason, it is actually important to regulate the production of thyroid in order to manage hypothyroidism and at the end of it all be able to have a healthy living as if not taken care of early enough; it will lead to heart failure or painful breathing.

You Could Be Suffering From Hypothyroidism and Not Know It

When your thyroid becomes under active then this means that it doesn’t produce enough hormone to enable your body to function properly and affects both your cells and organs. This condition is known as Hypothyroidism and can affect people of all ages including both men and women although women are far more likely to develop the problem.

Many people around the world are suffering from the effects of an under active thyroid and don’t even realise it. They can often put the symptoms down to tiredness, stress or just plain getting older. Also, the signs can be that subtle that they are just ignored.

There are some general warning signs to look out for and these include, but are not limited to…

1 – Intolerance to cold

2 – Feeling weak, fatigued and/or lethargic

3 – Suffering from constipation

4 – Weight gain

5 – Dry and/or rough skin

6 – Dry or coarse hair and even hair loss

7 – Feeling irritable

8 – Memory loss

As you can imagine, these symptoms could be caused by other ailments and that is why Hypothyroidism is so easy to dismiss. It has been reported that a staggering nine million people in the USA alone could be suffering from the condition but remain undiagnosed. Also approximately ten percent of women around the world are likely to have some degree of thyroid hormone deficiency.

If you are in any doubt about the general health of your thyroid then perhaps get it checked out by your doctor. Some experts recommend having it checked on a yearly basis.

Iodine Deficiency Can Cause Cretinism – Prevent Cretinism From Happening to Your Child

Iodine Deficiency Can Cause Cretinism – Prevent Cretinism From Happening to Your Child

Cretinism, for those who might not be truly aware of it, manifests itself insidiously in a child. Some parents might not notice the signs readily in their children. However, if detected and treated promptly, you can stop cretinism in its tracks and give your child a better chance at a happier life.

What is Cretinism?

Cretinism is a condition caused by extreme hypothyroidism during fetal life, infancy, and childhood. The characteristics of cretinism include stunted body growth and mental retardation. Hypothyroidism in the most critical stages of development is highly devastating for the central nervous system. Severe hypothyroidism in a fetus or an infant could lead to mental retardation, one of the most debilitating effects of cretinism. However, early recognition of the signs of hypothyroidism could prevent the more permanent characteristics of cretinism.

What Causes Cretinism?

Cretinism can result from a congenital lack of a thyroid gland. This condition is also known as congenital cretinism. It may also result from the inability of the thyroid gland to produce sufficient amounts of thyroid hormones that are crucial to the development of a child due to a genetic defect of the thyroid itself.

The most preventable cause of cretinism is a lack of iodine in the diet. This type of cretinism is called endemic cretinism. Unlike congenital cretinism, the severity of endemic cretinism varies according to the amount of iodine in the diet. In some places where the soil is iodine-deficient and sources of iodine are scarce, whole populaces have been observed to have cretinism tendencies.

Iodine, Thyroid Function, and Cretinism

The mechanisms for the effect of thyroid hormones on the development of humans are still not largely explained. However, it has been observed that a severe deficiency of thyroid hormone in the fetal and infant developmental stages is largely devastating to the central nervous system development of the child.

Iodine is a trace mineral that is required for the normal functioning of the thyroid gland. Small amounts of iodine circulating in the bloodstream are trapped by the thyroid gland to produce the two hormones that govern most of the metabolic rates of the entire body.

With a deficiency in either iodine or thyroid hormone, the child suffers from hypothyroidism and in extreme cases, cretinism. Mental and skeletal growth are much slower in comparison to soft tissue growth. If the child or infant is not diagnosed within a few weeks, mental retardation becomes permanent.

Detecting Hypothyroidism in Children

Newborns may still present as normal due to the presence of maternal thyroid hormones in their bodies. However, a few weeks after birth, the baby’s movements may be sluggish and both physical and mental growth start to become retarded. The baby may also sleep for longer periods of time and the cry is weaker than most. Some parents may think that such quiet behavior in their infants mean that they have a well-behaved baby. It is always best to be cautious and see a doctor immediately.

Infants identified to be hypothyroid may be treated with either iodine if they suffer from the earlier stages of endemic cretinism or thyroxine if their thyroid gland is damaged, absent or unable to produce the required amounts of thyroid hormone. Treatment at any time usually causes return of normal physical growth but after several weeks, mental retardation may already be permanent despite treatment.

Endemic cretinism can be avoided if the mother eats foods with sufficient amounts of iodine. In some developed countries, endemic cretinism has been eliminated by correcting the iodine deficiency of expecting mothers as well as their children. However, several cases of hypothyroidism still appear every now and then. It is for this reason that many countries now screen newborns for hypothyroidism to recognize the full syndrome before it is too late.

On 26 April 1986 at 01:23:40 am reactor number four at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant located in the Soviet Union near Pripyat in Ukraine exploded. Further explosions and the resulting fire sent a plume of highly radioactive fallout into the atmosphere and over an extensive geographical area. The plume drifted over parts of the western Soviet Union, Eastern Europe, Western Europe, Northern Europe, and eastern North America. Large areas in Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia were badly contaminated, resulting in the evacuation and resettlement of over 336000 people. According to official post-Soviet data, about 60% of the radioactive fallout landed in Belarus. The 2005 report prepared by the Chernobyl Forum, led by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and World Health Organization (WHO), attributed 56 direct deaths (47 accident workers, and nine children with thyroid cancer), and estimated that there may be 4000 extra deaths due to cancer among the approximately 6.6 million most highly exposed. RevolutionNews.US ~ Medical Marijuana Study in Colorado Springs – Maybe the cannabis cream cured Brett Strauss’ thyroid cancer. Maybe it didn’t. There’s no proof either way. All Strauss knows is that in January, tests on five tumors in his neck came back positive for cancer. Two months later, after regularly putting cannabis cream on his neck, the tumors were found to be benign in a post-surgical biopsy. He’s become such a believer in the medicinal properties of marijuana that he wants to give people who are terminally ill an affordable way to try it. Beginning Wednesday, he’ll pay for people with terminal illnesses to go to Colorado Compassionate Physicians for a medical marijuana recommendation, provide them with free or at-cost medical marijuana if they can’t afford it, and even shuttle them to Denver so they can get a waiver for the state fee, if they’re eligible. “It’s really neat what happened with my cancer, but the real story is giving back and taking care of people who have cancer or AIDS or some other terminal disease,” he says. Strauss, 39, is no stranger to medical marijuana. He started using it not long after his first surgery for thyroid cancer in 2007, mostly for pain associated with the operation and for digestive ailments. He then opened a dispensary, and he and his fiancee started an investment company last year to invest in other medical marijuana enterprises. In December, he moved his business, LAKK Investments, into a building near Centennial

Are you Suffering From Depression? Get your Thyroid Checked Up!

Millions of people suffer around the world from a depressive illness. They think that depression is just a normal occurrence in their lives, which will go away after a short while. If you think of the fast moving and complicated world we live in today it’s easy to feel a little overwhelmed and dismiss how serious depression can be. As is said everything has a cause to happen, so is the depression! Out of many probable causes, your faulty thyroid gland may be the main culprit to blame for. But take it easy! The all-natural supplement called “thyromine” has every reason to get rid off depression.

Do you know that no one is safe from being affected by depression because it affects everyone? It doesn’t matter whether you’re a male or female, rich or poor, educated or uneducated. Once a person starts becoming depressed, he or she usually behaves in a manner that intensifies the illness. It is a vicious circle that can be very difficult to break free.

What are the Thyroid Symptoms?- Disheartened thinking – negative approach about oneself, the present and the future- Difficulty in focusing and remembering- Feelings of unimportance and desperation- Anxiety – a sense of being afraid – that something “dreadful” is going to happen- Phobias or doubts about specific situations- Disrupted sleeping patterns – not much sleep or wanting to sleep all the time- Physical symptoms – aches and pains, gastrointestinal upsets, headaches- Incapacity to do the usual everyday activities- And even ‘Thoughts of suicide’When some body is suffering from thyroid disorder, which can lead to low thyroid secretion called hypothyroidism may start get affected by the dreaded sickness like ‘depression’. The thyroid gland controls your entire body’s metabolism. That means that your weight, your hair, your skin, your sex drive, all sorts of things that go on in your body depend on your thyroid to work right. But Thyromine can make your life come together because of its combination of natural ingredients that help your thyroid to perform normally. Thyromine increases the production of thyroid hormones and stimulates the immune system so that you can get relief from depression.

Losing Weight Permanently – Getting Help From Your Thyroid in Losing Weight

You exercise, you diet, you eat all the right foods and still, you can’t seem to lose weight. Is something wrong? Yes, perhaps something is up. Chances are, you neglected an area of your body that controls most of your metabolism — your thyroid gland.

What is the Thyroid Gland and What Does It Do?

The thyroid gland is one of the largest endocrine or hormone-secreting glands in the body. It is located in front of your trachea and directly below your larynx. The thyroid gland is responsible for secreting thyroxine (T4) and triidothyronine (T3), two hormones that significantly increase the metabolism of the body even in small amounts. Of these two, triidothyronine is the more potent.

In relation to losing weight, these two thyroid hormones significantly enhance the body’s fat metabolism. Lipids, especially, are mobilized to a great degree by the thyroid hormones, such that fat stores in the body are rapidly depleted. In men, these fat stores include the nape of the neck and the buttocks. In women, they are found more in the breasts, the buttocks, and the hips.

In addition, increased thyroid hormone decreases the amount of circulating cholesterol and triglycerides in the plasma. One way the thyroid hormone gets rid of the excess cholesterol is by increasing the secretion of cholesterol to the bile, which is then lost through the feces. If you’re worried that constipation will hinder the excretion of cholesterol, normally functioning thyroid glands also prevent constipation by increasing the rate of secretion of digestive juices and bowel movements.

Hypothyroidism and Hyperthyroidism

Hypothyroidism is a condition wherein there is less than the normal amount of thyroid hormones circulating in the bloodstream. It may be caused by a deficiency of iodine in the diet, destruction of the thyroid gland by either surgical removal or irradiation, or autoimmunity, which means that the body itself produces agents that damage or even destroy the thyroid gland.

As a result, a person with hypothyroidism does not get the fat metabolizing benefits people with normally functioning thyroid glands do. Patients with hypothyroidism are generally fatigued and lethargic, even sleeping as much as 14 hours a day! Other signs include sluggishness, slow heart rate, decreased blood volume, increased body weight, constipation, and mental sluggishness, as well as scaly skin.

However, excess of thyroid hormones is just as bad for the body as the lack of it. Hyperthyroidism, the opposite of hypothyroidism, results from an increase in the amount of thyroid hormone in the bloodstream. People with hyperthyroidism have a high state of excitability and suffer from increased sweating, mild to extreme weight loss, varying degrees of diarrhea, muscle weakness, nervousness or other psychic disorders, and hand tremors. Hyperthyroid patients also experience extreme fatigue but are unable to sleep due to the excitable effect of thyroid hormones.

Looking Right and Feeling Good

Nowadays, losing weight is no longer just an issue of looking right but also of feeling good. It is not as much as to look good as it is to staying fit and healthy. If you lead a healthy enough lifestyle — i.e. you do not smoke or drink alcoholic beverages, exercise regularly, eat a balanced diet, and get adequate sleep — then perhaps you should see your doctor and seek his professional opinion. You may have a thyroid problem you have not been aware of.

Thyroid Ultrasound Images From Endocrinology Ultrasound Machines

Where to get a thyroid ultrasound examination?

Endocrine Thyroid Ultrasound Qualified?
An Endocrinologist specializing in endocrinology ultrasound guided biopsy, thyroid biopsy, thyroid ultrasound, or fine needle aspiration in an endocrinology center is a qualified doctor for treating thyroid and hypothyroid diseases.

The American College of Endocrinology’s Comprehensive Certification Examination (CCE) demonstrates students’ proficiency and awards them a Endocrine Certification in Neck Ultrasound (ECNU). Successful candidates demonstrate acquisition of their ability to diagnose thyroid and parathyroid disorders through both diagnostic ultrasound and ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration (FNA). The ECNU designation is recognized by the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) and allows recipients to be directors of sonography laboratories and apply for AIUM Practice Certification.

Thyroid Doctors Use Endocrinologists’ Ultrasound Machines
A Thyroidologist is a specialist for evaluation, blood work, labs, check up, exam, endocrinology consultation, and endocrinology exam. Thyroid doctors must be qualified to evaluate and treat a broad range of endocrine conditions including hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, nodules, cysts, goiter, thyroid cancer, pregnancy-related thyroid concerns, and autoimmune conditions such as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis (Hashimoto’s disease) and Graves’ disease. Endocrinologists also evaluate patients for hyperparathyroidism and help determine if and when surgery is necessary.

Thyroid ultrasound is an effective way to diagnose health problems in the neck area of the endocrine system. Board certified in Endocrinology, a thyroid doctor should offer extensive medical services including:

thyroid sonogram,
evaluation,
ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration biopsy of thyroid nodules,
in-office CLIA certified testing laboratory.

Endocrine System Care
Goals, methods, and outcomes of therapy will vary from patient to patient because numerous variables affect hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, nodules and cancer.

Do You Suffer From These Thyroid Disease Symptoms?

Do You Suffer From These Thyroid Disease Symptoms?

Thyroid disease symptoms range from overweight, or underweight, to sexual dysfunction. Learn the symptoms of thyroid problems and what to do about them.

Ahhh, the thyroid…

That tiny little gland in your neck, shaped like a butterfly, that barely weighs an ounce. Not a gland you normally associate with sexual function.

No, the subject of thyroid usually gets mentioned in terms of unusual weight gain or loss. Or maybe when it comes to fatigue and lack of energy.

But sexual or libido problems? Nah… That’s usually testosterone territory.

A Closer Look

The thyroid’s job is to take in iodine from food (thyroid cells are the only ones in the body that can absorb iodine) and turn it into thyroid hormone. About 80% of those hormones are thyroxine (T4) and 20% are triiodothyronine (T3).(1) These hormones then speed through the bloodstream because every cell in your body depends on them to control metabolism – the basic conversion of calories and oxygen to energy.

The thyroid is your body’s “furnace” and the hormones it produces are the “heat”. No wonder you feel out of whack when thyroid production goes haywire!

But that’s just the beginning…

The “Heat” Has Left the Bedroom

Your thyroid controls – and gets blamed for – a lot of things. But one ground-breaking study, published in the December 2005 issue of the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism focused on thyroid disease symptoms and particular male sexual problems. The study considered 48 adult men. 34 had “hyperthyroidism” (an over-active thyroid producing too much hormone) and 14 had “hypothyroidism” (an under-active thyroid that doesn’t produce enough hormone).

Here’s how it went…

Before the study:

64.3% of the HYPOthyroid men complained of not only low libido, but ED and delayed ejaculation. 7.1% of them complained of PE or premature climax.
50% of the men with HYPERthyroid symptoms complained of PE or premature climax while 17.6% of them described low sex drive. 14.7% of this same group had erectile problems.(2)

Kinda shakes up your view of the thyroid, doesn’t it???

But here’s the good news: correct diagnosis and treatment of thyroid problems restored the men to “normal” thyroid levels and reversed the majority of the sexual symptoms.

More Thyroid Connections

Since thyroid function is so closely linked to cellular energy and metabolism, it should be no surprise that it affects all major functions of the body. Let me list some vital ones for you:

Even a “mildly underactive” thyroid (medically termed “subclinical” and usually ignored as a symptom) resulted in twice the risk of Heart Failure. Keep in mind that according to the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, at least 27 million Americans have some type of thyroid disease and half of those people are undiagnosed.(3)
Dr. Michel Chonchol of the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and Dr. Giovanni Targher of the University of Verona Italy found that 9.5% of patients with chronic kidney disease have subclinical hypothyroidism according to their blood tests, even though they showed no signs or thyroid disease symptoms. This is a serious finding since subclinical hypothyroidism is more common in older adults, and overall, it is found in about 4%-10% of the general population.(4)

A few cautions…

Some doctors will prescribe thyroid meds for thyroid disease symptoms (whether you have a diseased thyroid or not). Whether or not you’ve been diagnosed with thyroid problems, there are some things to keep in mind. Thyroxine (T4) is not absorbed as well by the body under certain conditions. That’s why your doctor, if he or she has prescribed supplemental thyroid for you, will say to take the medication on an empty stomach.

Both food and fiber slow down the absorption of thyroid meds. So does coffee! So don’t think you can swallow that med with a cup of coffee while you’re waiting to eat something!(5)

Other substances that can slow down absorption are antacids and medications containing aluminum. Iron supplements have the same effect, so spread out your intake if you use any of these things in addition to a thyroid supplement.

The tiny thyroid gland – weighing about the same as a stack of five quarters held in the palm of your hand – has an enormous impact on your health! And it’s a prime consideration when it comes to vibrant sexual capacity.

Do consult your personal doctor before making any changes to your diet, exercise or supplement regimen.

Why Removing Soy From Your Diet Helps Your Thyroid

Why Removing Soy From Your Diet Helps Your Thyroid

Even though there are claims that suggest modest amounts of soy are safe, do you know how much soy you’re getting? I believe you’ll be surprised when you start reading the food labels. You’re getting more than you think. It’s hidden in so many products and when you add soy protein drinks and bars you are consuming too much. Here are some of the very serious issues that people have been raising for years. Research is just scratching the surface about whether the dangers are real or not, but I don’t want my future generations to suffer.

Promoters of soy products such as soy protein isolate, or phyto-estrogens extracted from soy, usually fail to mention that soy products are goitrogenic to humans. That means they depress thyroid function. Certain substances found in the soybean inhibit thyroid hormone synthesis, leading to goiter and other adverse changes in the thyroid gland. Low thyroid function is associated with a host of debilitating diseases including cancer, heart disease, fatigue, osteoporosis, and a difficult menopause.

So, if you are taking soy for your menopause, it is depressing your thyroid and it may cause you to have a more difficult menopause. Try eating whole nutrient dense foods including animal fats, but avoid processed commercial foods.  Isoflavones can inhibit thyroid peroxidase (TPO), an enzyme involved in the synthesis of thyroid hormones.  As their name implies, some research suggests that goitrogens can cause an enlarged thyroid, known as a goiter, by increasing the amount of thyroid stimulating hormone. People can get goiters and other thyroid problems from either an iodine deficiency or in some cases from iodine excess.Iodine is important in other areas of metabolic regulation.

We all are aware of Oprah’s hypothyroidism. Did you know that Christiane Northrup, MD, author of The Wisdom of Menopause, has been Oprah’s consultant, and is a big promoter of soy? Did you know she has hypothyroidism? What a coincidence! If you are menopausal and gaining weight, did it ever occur to you that you could be developing a thyroid problem?   It is my belief that if Oprah removed soy from her diet and ate more whole foods and less processed foods she would lose the weight. So why not give it a shot? She has tried everything else without success.

Dianne Gregg, author of “The Hidden Dangers of Soy” decided to write this book after developing a severe allergy to soy and nearly dying. She has done extensive research on this subject and wanted to share this crucial information to protect your health. The fact of the matter is that soy is not the “health food” it’s cracked up to be.
Dianne has appeared on numerous radio shows and seen on TV CBS4.

She hosts her own radio show Tuesdays, 4pm – 5pm EST http://www.blogtalkradio.com/Health-Watch-Radio and interviews experts in the health and wellness industry.

How Can We Find Out That We May Suffer From Thyroid Cancer?

How Can We Find Out That We May Suffer From Thyroid Cancer?

People who notice unusual nodules in the neck should visit a doctor in a short time in order to find out if the nodules represents a malign or a bening tumor. Moreover, the doctor can examine the patient by a simple examination of the neck and also he can settle a proper diagnosis by performing certain laboratory tests which have the role to determine the function of the thyroid gland. Another way which describes how much the tumor has grown is represented by the staging of the cancer. For instance one of the most common test and tends to be quite efficacious is a nuclear medicine study with radioactive iodine. By using this test it can be easily found the etiology of a thyroid nodule and in this way a nodule may appear as “hot” which means that has a large amount of radioactivity and “cold” when it doesn’t take too much iodine. Both appereances of the nodules are bening, except the “cold” form which can be malignant in 15-20% of cases.

Moreover, thyroid cancer has the ability to spread and invade different parts of the throat, also affecting adjacent structured in the neck. The most common areas that tumors can affect include the tracheal and esophageal extensions, lymph nodes producing a lymphatic spread to the jugular and to the supraclavicular lymoh nodes and much more, the tumor may reach to the lumph nodes in the chest.

It is imortant to note that in some cases, thyroid cancer can affect ot only the areas around the neck such as lymph nodes, but also it can spread to other parts of the body through the bloodstream. This travel of the tumor to other organs is known as metastases and even though this form is very rare, it can be quite severe due to its possibility to affect the lungs and bones. What is more is that staging system is very used in describing the extent of the affection in both the thyroid itself and the neck. In addition, the staging system used to describe thyroid tumors is the TNM system and is used to identify and descriebe various types of cancer. The TNM systems includes 3 components: T-Describing the extend of the “primary” tumor; N-describing the spread to the lymp nodes and M-describing the spread to other organs.

In conclusion, the patients who suffer from thyroid cancer have the posibility to find out the stage and extension of their affection by performing various test and in this way the physician may prescriebe an appropriate treatment.

Hope for People Suffering from Hashimoto Disease (Thyroid)

www.MiracleAdaptogens.com . . . I am constantly surprised at the large number of people suffering from thyroid conditions, especially Hashimoto’s Disease which is considered an immune disorder as their body is producing antibodies that are attacking their thyroid gland. Typical treatment for Hashimoto’s is providing replacement thyroid hormones for the rest of that person’s life. It is not a comfortable way to live with energy level swings and other body functions deteriorating over time but that is all conventional medicine currently has to offer. Over the last few years I have introduced a formula that contains the extracted active ingredients of 2 Russian adaptogens (aralia mandshirica & rhodeola rosea plus the active ingredients of 2 powerful full spectrum functional anti-oxidants, caucasian billberry and georgian pomengranate). This liquid formula has 300 milligrams of these powerful extracted active ingredients per ounce and the typical dosage is 4 ounces (1200 milligrams of active ingredients) per day at a cost of per day and reduced dosage as the thyroid gland recovers, typically down to 2 ounces per day. The results have been spectacular! Since this is a nutritional, we cannot use the word “cure”, but people are greatly reducing the amount of medication previously required and their Hashimoto symptoms are frequently rapidly relieved and their quality of life improves greatly. It is worth learning about these adaptogens and their positive impact on
